Now where has that bandwagon gotten to?
I am jumping wholeheartedly back onto the Smart Girls Do Dumbbells bandwagon! I think, though, this time, I might start from the 15th of the month and go forward - I've done the first 10-14 days a few times now, and I'm bored with them.
How are you all doing?
P.S. All members can now post directly to the community - no need to wait to comment on my posts. Current Mood: uncomfortable

So, how'd it go? How did it feel? How long did it take you? Where were you on the Feelings of Energy Expended scale? How was Day 1? (I personally haven't done my workout yet, but I am going to log off and do it right now, then I will add my comments to this post!)

Questions, answers, and stuff
What's this program all about, anyway?
The Smart Girls Do Dumbbells program is made up of three major areas: stretching, weights, and abdominal exercises.Do I need to buy the book?
Well, buy it, borrow it from the library, share with a friend, etc. But you really do need to have the book to get the exercises and the instructions. What size/weight of dumbbells should I use?
The book emphasizes the "start low, go slow" philosophy, and suggests starting with 2-pound or 3-pound weights. (Use the heavier weights only if you are used to weights or have stronger arms.) When should I increase the weights?
The book directs that when you can do the last three reps of the last set WITH EASE, you should try using more weight. (See page 111 to 112 for more information on this point.
You will move up to heavier weights after time (possibly a few weeks) but you don't want to start too heavy, as you might injure yourself or de-motivate yourself. What's a rep? What's a set?
A rep (repetition) is one performance of one action: lifting a weight and going back to the starting position.
A set is the number of reps you do in a row before resting or moving on to another action. One set may contain ten or twelve reps.
See page 110 for more information. What kind of schedule will we use in this group?
One of the things I like about this book is that the schedule is provided - it's a 30-day exercise menu. (It starts on page 188.)
I decided to start on the first of the month so that it would be easy to keep track of what day I was on. If you are joining in late, you can start where we are (which I think would be easier for keeping up with discussions) or you can start on your own Day 1 and join in the discussions as you see fit. How will we post our thoughts/results/etc.?
For the moment, my plan is that I will have the only posting access. I will create a post every weekday (and on the weekends, if I'm online then) where group members can comment and discuss the workouts and their thoughts/feelings. What about the 6-Site Body Evaluation Log?
The book provides a page that you can copy (or create your own in Word/Excel) and fill in with various measurements, including weight and inches of different body parts. In terms of this group, use it, don't use it, talk about it in your updates, don't talk about it, that's up to you.
Questions? Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? Let's hear 'em! Current Mood: energetic

I was reading Smart Girls Do Dumbbells
and thought I might give it a whirl. And then I thought "I bet there are others of my acquaintance who would like to do the same!"
And that's what this community is for: a place to talk about the ups and downs of weight training the Smart Girl way.
Do we want to try working through the monthly schedule on the same days? Starting May 1st, maybe? (It's not a Monday, if that helps!) With a couple of check-ins per week, with questions and comments about technique, weight, reps, music to lift to, motivation, or anything? What do you think?
Welcome, and let's get lifting! Current Mood: hopeful
